MY BEST ADVICE

WHY IT’S MY BEST ADVICE

I believe that this was the best advice that I gave. This is because I told Mackenzie what she did well and why, what she could work on and why, and also explained how I can relate to her to validate my advice. I think it is important to include the “why” in the advice because it helps the person receiving it to know that not only should they change or not change something, but the effect that it has on the audience and why it is important to either change or not change it.

BEST ADVICE FROM MY PEERS

WHY IT’S THEIR BEST ADVICE

I think that this advice from Mackenzie was the best advice I got from my peers. This is because she told me two things that I did well, something that I should work on AND WHY, and she related to me. I loved this because I was able to go back through and realize what I was doing well, but also notice what she was talking about that I should work on. I also liked that she didn’t just tell me to fix something, but told me why, and what effect it had on the audience. This motivated me to change it. Lastly, it’s nice when someone can relate to you! Especially when they’re critiquing you. Sometimes when being critiqued, it can feel like you don’t want to listen to someone because they don’t have the knowledge that you do, but Mackenzie did!

MY BIGGEST STRIDES

Dry run: https://youtu.be/7fbaQQpVX_Y

Final: https://youtu.be/5VVKXS76y1Q

My biggest strides were between the dry run and final run of speech 3. I was given the advice to make better eye contact, specifically at the end. However, something that I noticed that I did better anyway was my body language. Instead of just talking with my hands, if you look at 0:15 in the final- you can see me gesture towards my foot when talking about it. I also do this type of thing at 4:13 and at 4:21 when I am talking about going up the stairs. This definitely worked better for the audience, as well as making that eye contact at the end (4:52). Another place that I did well with my eye contact was at 4:04, when I look down when I am demonstrating going down the stairs, and then make eye contact again when I continue speaking. I think it is important to take your eyes away from the audience at times, especially because they may feel like they can’t look anywhere but your eyes. But in cases like these, it encourages the audience to look where you are looking, and this was beneficial because I was trying to teach them something that they needed to be able to see/watch.
